WHO WE ARE:
Beacons Mentoring LLC is a dedicated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Summerville, South Carolina. We serve the local community in Dorchester County, and as we grow, we're expanding into the greater Charleston area and beyond. Our mission is to positively impact young lives by providing mentorship and guidance to students who need it most.
WHAT WE DO
At Beacons Mentoring, we believe that every child deserves someone in their corner, which is why we’ve developed a mentorship program tailored for elementary and middle school students. Our volunteer mentors partner with schools in the greater Summerville area to work directly with students who could benefit from extra support and encouragement. These students are often identified by school staff or their parents as needing guidance in areas like personal growth, social skills, or academic confidence. Through one-on-one mentorship, we aim to equip these students with the tools and mindset to navigate challenges and build a brighter future.
WHEN WE VOLUNTEER
Our mentorship meetings take place once a week throughout the school year. This consistency is a key element of our program, providing a reliable and steady presence in the lives of our mentees. For many of these students, our meetings are not just a source of support but something they eagerly look forward to each week. This dependable interaction helps to build trust and strengthen the mentor-mentee relationship over time, which is essential for meaningful growth and development.
WHERE WE WORK
Currently, our program operates within several elementary, middle, and high schools across Summerville and the surrounding communities. As our network of volunteer mentors grows, we are continually expanding into new schools to extend our reach and help even more students.
HOW WE DO IT
Our approach is simple but powerful: we connect compassionate, trained volunteer mentors with students who could benefit from positive role models. Mentors and mentees engage in a variety of activities that focus on building trust, fostering emotional resilience, and developing life skills. Whether it’s through conversation, goal-setting, or hands-on projects, our mentors provide the guidance and encouragement that these students need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. We also collaborate closely with schools and willing parents to ensure our program complements each child’s individual needs.
